Meet Brent
Life has a way of challenging you. Sometimes it’s a subtle push, and other times it a 2x4 to the head. How you choose to respond defines you. I have lived a life full of shoves and 2x4s.
What I believed were my successes included climbing the corporate ladder to a position where I was leading an organization of over 1500 employees. It was living in a beautiful home overlooking a golf course in San Diego. It was raising a family. It was being married for 30 years.
Each of these “successes” came with its own set of rules that I wasn’t in charge of, as I learned when my path took sharp turns that were unanticipated. During the financial crisis of 2008 I was responsible for laying- off all 1500 employees as well as myself. In the middle of this, wildfires swept through the San Diego area and caused extensive damage to our home. None of this caused me much duress. The next event that hit brought me to my knees. My 17-year-old daughter was out for a run (she was training for a ½ marathon) in a community park when she was violently attacked and murdered by a previously convicted sex offender. My world came crashing in. How do you move let alone breathe when the source of your joy is traumatically gone?
The loss of my daughter forced me to examine every layer of my life. I had to choose to either whiter away from grief or do the hard work and seek to bring joy into my life. Growth requires effort- a flower needs to move a lot of soil to break through the surface, and I had mounds of dirt on top of me
What I discovered through this process is what I want to provide for you. I found what truly matters to me. I found peace in being authentic to myself and vulnerable to others. My goal for you is to help you on your own personal path towards authenticity.
